WHY IT MATTERS

By weaving literacy, focus, and problem-solving into movement and community, the program strengthens early learning and school readiness without a classroom model.

Educational Needs

Structured fitness becomes a safe outlet for energy and stress, helping keiki build resilience and reducing risks of depression and disengagement.

Wellness & Mental Health

Take-home practices such as gratitude, reflection, and daily wellness routines equip parents to create healthier and more secure environments.

Family Stability

Keiki are guided to see themselves through God’s light, discovering identity, value, and purpose while connecting to cultural pride and family strength.

Cultural & Spiritual Connection

OVERVIEW

Micronesian families are a vital part of Hawai‘i, carrying resilience, cultural wisdom, and strong family values. Yet, from the earliest years, many keiki face challenges that put their future at risk -not because of their ability, but because of barriers in access, support, and opportunity. By the time they reach kindergarten and the early grades, many are already entering school at a disadvantage in wellness, literacy, and social-emotional readiness.
As they grow, these early gaps contribute to the larger disparities seen in our schools:
• 59% of Micronesian students in Hawai‘i fail math and nearly half fail English.
• Only about half graduate on time, while 43% drop out.
• Chronic absenteeism is nearly 44% in some schools (vs. 18% statewide).
• Micronesians experience higher risks of anxiety, depression, and suicide, with many struggles beginning in childhood.
The Aloha Strong Program (Keiki Education & Wellness) was created for this moment to step in at the most critical window of development, ages 3–7, when identity, resilience, and purpose are just beginning to take shape. More than an after-school activity, it is a wellness and leadership membership that provides keiki with a foundation of movement, learning, and growth. Through fitness training, mentorship, and reflection, keiki not only build physical strength but also experience healing, discover confidence, and begin shaping their identity and purpose through God’s light.
